FROMM Chardonnay 2022
On the nose, the wine is open and expressive with notes of apple, pear and a touch of custard. There’s a genuine impression of a warm apple pie, fresh out of the oven here. This carries through on the palate, with the orchard fruit notes joined by a hint of just-ripe nectarine, subtle vanilla, and framed by an apple-skin phenolic grip and balanced by freshening acidity.

A fine and elegant bouquet with a core of place from vineyard mineral scents and ripe orchard fruits to a combination of lees and peach, chalk and apple, grapefruit and nut. Taut, youthful, crisp, dry and textured. Flavours reflect the bouquet with acidity accentuating the citrus flavours and tension from fine tannins. The mineral theme is persistent with a raw cashew nut and gentle spice quality from ageing in barrel. A lovely example that needs a place in your cellar with best drinking from late 2024 or early 2025 through 2030+.

Lively, detailed floral and white fruit aromas with crisp apple and citrus with a hint of smoky flint. Etched on the palate in pithy phenolics are clean, subtle but crystalline flavours with a strong streak of chalky minerality. Complex, poised and sophisticated with no perceptible oakiness, the mid-weight flavours are accessible but clearly able to evolve and improve in the near-term 20 SEP 2024. Cellar 2024–2032

The grapes for this wine were sourced from two vineyards in the Brancott Valley, a blend of Clone 95 and Mendoza. Another classic FROMM Chardonnay, exhibiting tight structure yet fine texture; complex, multi-layered and mouthfilling with a terroir rather than fruit-focussed flavour profile. The nose is complex with subtly integrated stonefruit and citrus aromas, notes of hazelnut, hay and straw, some lees complexities and a minerality driven clean and persistent finish. A Chardonnay of substance and drive.

A complex and elegant bouquet, there’s a natural mineral quality that precedes the bouquet of fresh white fleshed fruits, apple and grapefruit and a fine leesy core. Mineral, floral and new. Delicious, fresh, salivating and ripe with flavours that mirror the bouquet. A wine of texture and minerality as much as it is fruit and flavour. Citrus and pith, apple and quince, white peach and flowers. There’s a whisper of spice; this is a wine of purity and finesse. Best drinking from mid to late 2023 through 2030.

23 Sep, 2022 – I like the matchstick notes here underneath grilled peaches and lemon curd on toast. Medium-bodied and creamy. Lovely freshness and excellent length. Supremely drinkable. From organically grown grapes. Drink now. Screw cap.
